FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December
12, 2005 Contacts: Natashia Euler, KWRU Hosts Multi-organization vigil in Downtown Philadelphia as Part of Homes for the Holidays Campaign CENTER CITY, PHILADELPHIA, Pa: Starting December 19 through the 21, Kensington Welfare Rights Union members, volunteers, and other organizations committed to fighting poverty will be outside in downtown Philadelphia well into the night in an effort to spread awareness regarding the issue of homelessness. This demonstration is to demand access to decent and affordable housing as well as to hold Mayor Street accountable for his 10-year plan to end homelessness. “This protest is to give a face to the number of poor and working poor that are here in Philadelphia. All we want is to ensure that everyone in Philadelphia, regardless of race, gender, religion, and so on has access to decent, safe, and affordable housing for their families. This doesn’t mean having a shelter that they can go to for a few hours during the night. No. This means going to a home that they can call their own.” – Galen Tyler, Director The protest will begin 4pm on December 19, 2005 and will will be on going till the 21st. KWRU welcomes anyone who would like to join in the demonstration, has blankets or warm clothing to spare, or is willing to provide hot meals and/or beverages. KWRU will also be accepting donations of turkeys and other food items that will be redistributed to the local families in need. What:
