KWRU
joins with the Philadelphia Affordable Housing Coalition in commerorating
the "Day of Atonement" for the political sins of homelessness
and lack of affordable housing in Philadelphia.

Members
of the Philadelphia Affordable Housing Coalition gathered on the West
Side of City Hall on Wednesday September 22, to deliver 10 point list
of action steps that Council, the Mayor, and PHA must take this year
to begin to address the crisis. |
| City
Council and May Street to help end the affordable housing crisis
in our city: |
| 1. Thou
shalt stop taking occupied houses where people don't want to
move |
2. Thou
shalt pass the Visitability Bill introduced by Councilwoman
Blackwell |
3. Thou
shalt stop the demolition of PHA houses that are in good condition |
| 4. Thou
shalt make PHA distribute the maximum number of Section 8 vouchers
given to Philadelphia by the federal government and not use
voucher money for social services instead |
5. Thou
shalt make PHA allow ex-offenders access to PHA housing |
6. Thou
shalt make PHA end the 7-year time limit on Section 8 vouchers |
| 7. Thou
shalt require that 15% of all new housing subsidized by the
City be fully wheelchair accessible |
8. Thou

9. Thoug
shalt increase OHCD funding for new affordable rental housing,
home repair grants, emergency heater repairs and homelessness

Yesenia
Cruz of the KWRU, and currently homeless with four children, talked
about her experiences in attempting to obtain a section 8 voucher.
She has completed numerous application, stayed in various shelters,
and is still being told that she is not on the list. |

Before
heading up to the council offices, members of the PAHC performed
street theater depicting the demolishment of homes by the NTI.
Members of
the PAHC then delivered copies of the Ten Commandments of Affordable
Housing to each of the council members.
