White
Dog Cafe Viewing of Battle For Broad
July 11, 2004
This past Sunday
evening the White Dog Cafe hosted a free screening of the KWRU film Battle
For Broad
As many of our web
readers know, this documentary follows the work of the Kensington Welfare
Rights Union, capturing the tension and excitement of four days in the
summer of 2000 leading up to the Republican National Convention. With
the eyes of the world upon them, poor and homeless people gathered under
the banner of the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign to take
on the Philadelphia police in a battle to hold an un-permitted march against
poverty on the Convention's opening day.
The film played to
a packed house of supporters and national coordinator, Cheri Honkala spoke
following the film. Cheri addressed questions from the audience with a
focus on how our community has fared in the past four years and of our
plans for a March For Our Lives
on opening day of this summer's Republican National Convention in New
York City. Her comments were well received by those in attendance, with
many guests making donations and committing to march with us this August
30th.
And we would like
to thank Grace Wicks of the White Dog
Cafe for her continued support and work towards making this event
the success it was!
