Yesterday, March 20, the Kensington Welfare Rights Union (KWRU) and the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign (PPEHRC) joined millions of people around the world in protesting the war and occupation of Iraq on the first anniversary of the beginning of the war. While members of the PPEHRC marched across the country, KWRU/PPEHRC members participated in the march of 100,000 people in New York City. The march was a protest of Bush's policies that are killing the poor both in the United States and around the world. Marching at the front of the march through downtown Manhattan, KWRU marchers helped lead chants such as: Money for Housing (Health Care, Jobs, Schools), Not for War."

Cheri Honkala, the national coordinator of the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign (and founder of the KWRU) spoke at the rally: We the poor of the United States and the world are NOT surviving the Bush Administration. We are marching for all of the children of God, the children of Iraq, of Afghanistan, of Haiti, of Venezuela, of Palestine, of the United States.

Join us on August 30th at 4 PM at the United Nations at 45th St. and 1st Ave. in New York City as we march on opening day of the Republican National Convention to STOP THE WAR AT HOME.
