JUDGE EXTENDS STAY AWAY ORDER
FROM CITY HALL
On Monday March 1, 2004 five
members of KWRU stood before the court facing charges of criminal
trespass and a stay away order from city hall. When going before the
judge our attorney entered a motion to eliminate the stay away order from
city hall on the grounds that it was unconstitutional, instead the judge
extended the stay away order. Since their arrest in December KWRU has
continued to find housing for the 6 women who are victims of domestic
violence and due to recent activities regarding
these 6 families; we have since secured access to safe affordable housing
for them. Although we were able to secure this victory, we know that everyday
in Philadelphia hundreds of other victims of domestic violence remain
in dangerous situations. It is criminal that only 50 beds are available
for victims of domestic violence, when 200 women alone were killed last
year as a a result of domestic violence. Something has to be done about
this crisis. We need your support again members of KWRU face legal charges
literally for helping to keep families safe.
