January 20th- Members of the
KWRU participated in a session this morning to create an international
committee to preserve democracy in the US. The session was also attended
by Corinne Kumar of the Asian Womens Human Rights Council and former congresswoman
Cynthia McKinney. The session concluded with a proposal for the committee
to send international delegations to the US to monitor our election process
and to monitor human rights violations.
Later in the afternoon, the
KWRU attended a panel called "From Rights to Reality," organized
by the International Network for Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights,
on which Galen Tyler sits as a representative of the KWRU. The panel discussion
brought representatives of social movements from different parts of the
world together to share strategies for using the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights.
