Homeless Families are in need
of real Homeland Security for the Holidays!
The Kensington Welfare Rights
Union works daily to house homeless families in the Philadelphia area.
Philadelphia doesn't have any affordable housing right now and the shelter
system doesn't meet the basic needs of our current homeless population.
For example, many of our families are recent victims of domestic violence
and the shelter system cannot and will not guarantee their safety.
Homeless families who come
to the Kensington Welfare Rights Union make a commitment to ending homelessness
for all families, not just their own. We believe that we can end homelessness
in Philadelphia and throughout the United States. We need your help this
holiday season as our country spends $87 billion on the war in Iraq. There
are not only casualties of the war in Iraq, but here at home as well.
Help us re-build America by helping us re-build Philadelphia's homeless
families and leaders, one by one.
Your help is needed with the
following:
- Housing you no longer need
or want
- Space heaters or kerosene
heaters for our takeover houses
- Blankets
- Non-perishable food or food
certificates
- Phone cards
- Septa tokens
- Cell phones for victims
of domestic violence to carry
- Toys for the children
- Electric hot plates
- Your prayers and support
We hope that you and your family
have a healthy and happy holiday season. If you or your family are ever
in need of housing, please feel free to call us. And if you're committed
to ending poverty and homelessness, don't hesitate to call. We all need
to work together to end poverty and homelessness in Philadelphia and across
the United States.
