From KWRU's sister organziation
in El Salvador, PROGRESO-CRIPDES:
El Salvador 27 June 2001
Brothers and Sisters of Kensington,
your brothers and sisters of PROGRESO wish you much strength for continuing
the fight against social injustices that daily assault the poor more and
more. We have recieved information that the Kensington Welfare Rights
Union is having a three day event against the poverty in Kensington. We
of PROGRESO are in solidarity with this events and hope they are successful.
Our organization PROGRESO-CRIPDES
is working to strengthen the Regional-National Community Organization
so that we can particpate in the diferent fights against social injustices
in our country and to confront all the policies imposed by the right-wing
government. We have created three Assemblies with Community Leaders for
discussing the themes of FTAA, change of Salvadorean currency to United
States currency and other laws that the government imposes onto us. Another
aim of these discussion amongst the Assemblies with Community Leaders
is to inform the Salvadoran people of the social policies of the government
because it is these social policies, the FTAA, dollarization and other
laws that continue to impoverish the poor and make the rich more richer.
On June 1, 2001 we participated
in a national march on the two year anniversary of the coming to power
of this government. We were able to mobilize over 500 people of our communities
to demand that the government cease creating these policies against the
poor of their country. Also, we have many other difficulties in our work,
for example in our communities companeros are assassinated for their organizing
work and this act greatly affects the progression of our organization.
We invite you to bring a delegation
of brothers and sisters to get to know and understand our work in PROGRESO.
We will be able to exchange experiences for strengthen our work and our
sisterhood.
Sincerely,
The Leadership of PROGRESO
