CHERI HONKALA TO TESTIFY IN WORLD COURT OF WOMEN IN SOUTH AFRICA

[March 3, 2001] KWRU Executive Director and National Spokesperson of the Poor people's Economic Human Rights Campaign Cheri Honkala will testify in the "World Court of Women Against War, For Peace" which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, on International Women's Day, Thursday March 8, 2001.

She will provide testimony as to the many different types of war, and in particular the "wars of poverty", that are being waged against poor and homeless women, men and children across the United States. She will also speak of the growing movement for economic human rights in the US and our efforts to link up with movements internationally so that we can end the violence of poverty once and for all.

On March 9, Cheri, representing poor and homeless people across the United States, will participate in the creation of the World Women's Commission on Human Rights.

During the time they are in South Africa, delegates will hold a Women In Black demonstration and will travel to Robben Island, where former South African President Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years.
