POLICE SHUT DOWN SIGNMAKING FOR MARCH

July 21, 2000: Today at at one o'clock in the afternoon, Philadelphia Licensing and Inspection shut down the Spiral Q puppet theater. Young people there were busy making signs for the Kensington Welfare Rights Union March for Economic Human Rights on July 31, opening day of the Republican Convention. The police removed everything from the building. Police refused to give their names or badge numbers.

Poor and homeless people from the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign and the KWRU will not be silenced, nor will we disappear -- with our without our signs. Their attempt to silence us and to make us afraid will not work. We will continue to march.
