for Our Lives on Opening Day of the Republican National Convention
Philadelphia,
PA, August 5, 2004 The Poor Peoples Economic Human Rights
Campaign (PPEHRC) will hold a press conference on the south side
of City Hall in Philadelphia Friday morning at 11 A.M. The National
anti-poverty group will announce plans to protest in New York during
the Republican Convention PPEHRC will provide ten large buses to
carry protesters to NYC for the opening day of the Republican National
Convention. Protesters will leave from Love Park in Philadelphia
on August 30th at 11:00AM and travel to the United Nations in New
York for the PPEHRC March for Our Lives protest rally
and march at 4 PM.
Protesters
are currently marching through parts of New Jersey toting their
mobile tent camp labeled Bushville. In an effort to highlight the
negative impact of Republican policies on the poor in the U.S. the
group is traveling to poverty stricken communities throughout the
region and holding vigils and impromptu demonstrations. Organizers
began planning for the march in 2000.
When
the Republican National Convention descends upon New York City,
we will be marching to demand an end to the war at home that has
left many of us homeless, hungry, unemployed, underemployed and
without healthcare, said Cheri Honkala, national spokesperson,
PPEHRC. As poor and working people of this country we cannot
afford to suffer silently as our lives are threatened by political
and economic policies that deny us our basic human rights.
