The
Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign reconstituted a legal
committee charged with refiling a petition
with the Inter-American Human Rights Commission of the Organization
of America States for economic human rights violations in the United
States. After a long discussion of the case based on TANF time limits,
the committee decided to postpone pursuing this claim until more
cases can be identified.
The
Committee made up of lawyers from around the country decided to
pursue the filing of a petition based on TANF grant levels and the
right to housing. A subcommittee will make an assessment of filing
the petition by the end of August 2004.
The
Committee will also focus on the legal needs around the Poor Peoples
Economic Human Rights Campaign March for Our Lives during the RNC.
