Sarah Freni-Rothschild: 5/6/76-10/1/03

Sarah had been on her parent’s health insurance policy, but their policy had a restriction which only allowed children to be carried until they turned 26, so she lost coverage in May.
She was without insurance from May – Oct (the day she died). She had started a new job in late August which had insurance; however, there was a 30 day waiting period before the insurance went into effect. Ironically, her insurance policy started on the day she died, Oct 1.
She had severe leg pain in late September, to the point where she had trouble walking, but elected to wait for medical care until her insurance started as she was not financially able to cover the costs on her own and did not want to defer the bill to her parents.
On the morning of Oct 1, she was home from work as she had taken the day off to see her doctor; as we found out later, the pain in her leg was due to a large blood clot, a condition which is curable through medication and surgery. Sadly, the clot moved from her leg to her lung, causing her to suffocate. She died at the age of 26.
