Bushville
Erected in Jersey City, New Jersey:
PRESS
"Grass
roots group unwanted on overgrown lot" Newsday, June 3
Day
3: June 3
3:30
Emergency Hearing
KWRU Cheri Honkala and a lawyer are going before judge
Barbara Curran at the Hudson County Courthouse (Jersey City) to get an
injunction to stop the police harassment.
While
Cheri, Galen and our lawyer were at the courthouse, the Jersey City Incinerator
Authority came to the lot. They dismantled the entire Bushville and impounded
everything (except the American flag). They are charging us $150 everyday
until we pick up what they took.
12:30
at night Police Storm Bushville.
At
12:30 AM, the Captain of the Jersey City Police Department and other officers
stormed Bushville. The Police presented Bushville Residents a summons
for "Posting and Affixing Signs Without Authorization." Police
threatened to return today (June 3rd) to arrest the Residents of Bushville.
In
addition, the zoning department came to inspect Bushville this morning.
Also, a representative of a local hospital's homeless services program
informed Bushville residents that there is no spaces in New Jersey's shelters
and there is no affordable housing available. Unable to provide the necessary
services, they left 8 hygiene packets and offered other services.
Since
we face ongoing harassment by law enforcement and threat of arrest, we
need your support! We know the police are just following larger orders.
Through the Jersey City Police Department, "Homeland Security"
attempts to make the poor invisible and to deny us our first amendment
rights to protest for basic human rights in the United States.
We
urge you to please call and fax the Jersey City Police Department to demand
that law enforcement stop harassing Bushville Residents.
