The historic march "National Poor People's March for Economic Human Rights" which will take place in the US FROM AUGUST 2nd THROUGH THE 20th of this year, is being organized by the Poor People's Campaign for Economic Human Rights, headed by Kensington Welfare Rights Union, a member organization of COMPA and the Coordinating Committee (COCO). In recognition of the urgent need to organize the poor in the US, the COCO has decided that COMPA's participation in this march is a key part of the strategic plan for COMPA this year. So much so that the COCO has planned its next meeting to coincide with this march and the national/international camp for the poor which will take place in Washington, DC after the march. We call on all of the COMPA members to participate in some way in this march which seeks to increase the internal resistance to the US government policies, and unify the poor in the US with poor people around the world.

The march will consist of three weeks of march and caravan from the south part of the US to Washington, DC (august 2 to 22) and will end in a big march of poor people from the US in Washington, DC on august 23rd. In Washington, we will build a "Bushville" camp and we will carry out a week of exchanges and protest for economic human rights and against FTAA and militarization. At the same time, the march, and in particular the 23rd will be the beginning of a year of strong battles for the poor people in the US, and for people around the world, to defeat the Bush administration in the national elections of November 2004. On August 23rd, as the march arrived in DC, we will announce our intention to organize a gigantic march of poor people on the opening of the Republican National Convention, which will take place in New York in September 2004.

The participation and accompaniment of the international community for the august march, plus august 23rd, and the 15 months that follow will be key for the success of our urgent struggles to liberate ourselves (and all people) of this bellicose regime. In these moments poor people and the nascent movement in the US are in a fight for life or death, where the juncture we are living in is more dangerous every day. We can choose death, which is the only thing this administration offers us, or we can choose to fight to live, and run the risks that this situation imposes on us, which you all know very well. Committed as we are in constructing a movement at this dangerous but historic juncture, we shout to the world that we exist and that we are fighting against the monster. And without exaggerating, only thanks to our international visibility will we survive and help this liberation movement grow. This is why we are asking you for your solidarity in this march.

The following are some of the forms of solidarity that we request:

• Physical presence at the march during any time of the month, in addition to the 22nd and 29th of august. Also, on august 24th there will be an opportunity for COMPA members to meet with COCO members in special meetings in "Bushville"
• To join the "INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION: A CALL TO ELIMINATE POVERTY IN THE UNITED STATES AND AROUND THE WORLD", in Unity with poor people's struggle in the United States on August 23rd, the day that the march arrives in Washington, DC. To organize some type of action in solidarity (protests in front of the US embassy in your countries, marches, letters, etc.) and that you inform us so that we can make it visible in the press and our web site.
• Spread information about the march to the press in your countries and to any national and/or international network with which you are connected. Stay updated about the march at the KWRU website www.kwru.org, where we will also have photos of each day of the march.
• Letters of solidarity, material help to KWRU - who are coordinating this march with minimal funds.

The Continental Coordination (COCO) of COMPA

Esta marcha histórica "La Marcha Nacional de los Pobres por los Derechos Humanos Económicos" que tendrá lugar en los EEUU DEL 2 A 20 DE AGOSTO de este año, está siendo organizada por La Campana de los Pobres por los Derechos Humanos Económicos, que esta encabezada por el Kensington Welfare Rights Union, organización miembro de COMPA y de la COCO. En reconocimiento de la necesidad urgente de organizar a los pobres en los EEUU, la COCO ha decidido que la participación de COMPA en esta marcha es parte clave del plan estratégico de COMPA para este año. Tanto que la COCO ha planificado su próxima reunión para coincidir con esta marcha y el campamento nacional/ internacional de los pobres que tendrá lugar en Washington DC después de la marcha. Hacemos un llamado a todos los miembros de COMPA a que participen de alguna manera en esta marcha que busca hacer crecer la resistencia a las políticas del gobierno estadounidense desde adentro, y unir a los pobres de los EEUU con los pobres a nivel internacional.

La marcha consistirá en tres semanas de marcha y caravana desde el sur de los EEUU a Washington DC (2 a 22 de agosto) y culminará en una gran marcha de los pobres de los EEUU en Washington DC el 23 de agosto. En Washington, construiremos un campamento llamado "Bushville" y llevaremos a cabo una semana de intercambio y protesta por los derechos humanos económicos y contra del ALCA y la militarización. A la vez, la marcha, y en particular el día 23 servirá para dar inicio a un año de lucha fuerte por los pobres de los EEUU, y por la gente del mundo, para derrotar la administración de Bush en las elecciones nacionales en noviembre de 2004. En la marcha el día 23, anunciaremos nuestra intención de organizar una marcha gigante de los pobres el día de apertura de la Convención Nacional Republicana, que tendrá lugar en Nueva York en septiembre de 2004.

La participación y acompañamiento de la comunidad internacional en la marcha en agosto, mas el día 23, y los 15 meses que vienen van a ser claves para el éxito de nuestros esfuerzos urgentes para liberarnos (y a todos) de este régimen bélico. En estos momentos los pobres y el movimiento naciente en los EEUU están en una lucha de vida y muerte, en una lucha en que sentimos cada día más el peligro de la Coyuntura. Podemos escoger la muerte que últimamente es la única cosa que esta administración nos ofrece, o podemos escoger luchar para vivir, y correr los riesgos que esta decisión nos impone, que bien ustedes conocen en su propia carne. Decididos en seguir construyendo este movimiento en esta coyuntura tan peligrosa pero tan histórica, les gritamos al mundo que existimos y que luchamos contra el monstruo. Y que sin exagerar, va a ser nuestra visibilidad a nivel internacional que nos va a dejar sobrevivir para hacer crecer este movimiento para toda nuestra liberación. Por eso les hacemos el llamado a mostrar su solidaridad con esta marcha.

Lo siguiente incluye algunas de las muestras de solidaridad y apoyo que solicitamos:

• Presencia física en la marcha en cualquier momento del mes, además del 22 al 29 de agosto. Además, el día 24 habrá oportunidad para miembros de COMPA a que vengan a reunirse con los miembros de la COCO en unas reuniones especiales en "Bushvillle."
• Que se unan con el "DIA INTERNACIONAL DE ACCION: UN LLAMADO PARA ELIMINAR LA POBREZA EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS Y MUNDIALMENTE" en Unidad con la lucha de los pobres en los Estados Unidos el día 23 de agosto, el día que la marcha entra a Washington DC. Que se organice algún tipo de acto solidario (protestas en frente de la embajada EEUU en sus países, marchas, cartas, etc.) y que nos informen para poder visibilizarlo en la prensa y en nuestro sitio web.
• Que se difundan informes sobre la marcha a la prensa en sus países y a cualquiera red nacional y/o internacional con las cuales tengan contacto. Que se mantenga informado sobre la marcha por el sitio KWRU www.kwru.org donde también habrán fotos de la marcha - habrán informes cada día de la marcha.
