The Kensington Welfare Rights Union is always looking for volunteers and interns. We can create projects and activities to meet your interests and our needs.

Whether you have a month, a semester, or a year we can use your help. Internships vary between 6 and 40 hours a week.

In the past our interns have assisted in various projects and tasks

• Administrative assistance in our Kensington Office
• Youth activities for our younger organizers
• Desiging fliers and posters for events
• Setting up fundraisers and benefits
• Grant writing
• Research projects around affordable housing and healthcare
• Organizing on local campuses
• Food Distributions in the neighborhood
• Fliering and documentation at welfare offices
• Web and multimedia design

All internships are unpaid but we can help you find funding through your university. We are approved for off-campus work study If you are not from the Philadelphia area we can assist with subsidized housing. Please do not let lack of funding turn you away from joining us.

Summer of Social Action:

Every summer we bring students from all over the country and world to join us as we work to document and expose the level of poverty that exists in the United States of America. Borrowing lessons from Martin Luther King Jr's Poor Peoples Campaign, we want to bring students to Kensington to participate in trainings and educationals which will change the way you look at organizing around human rights and the growing importance of student participation. We will work together to expose the daily practices of our local, state, and federal government that violate our Economic Human Rights!
