| We left Lorain early in the morning, after breakfast. We drove to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We arrived at the United Steelworkers !
Union, which hosted a lunch with Just Harvest. From there we marched to a rally the state office building. Representatives from many organizations spoke, including the Steelworkers Union, Just Harvest, religious groups, and others. We picked up several additional freedom bus riders, and as rain began to fall we boarded the bus for Lorain. We drove through the beautiful hills of West Virginia. Our bus wound through the narrow, winding roads to an abandoned school in the town of Caretta which had been converted to a community center. We spent the night there, exhausted from a long day of driving. On The Bus Time spent driving o!
n the bus is not simply "down-time." There are educations every day on the bus on different topics relating to the freedom bus (economics, politics, history, etc. of different areas of the country, as well as discussions of our strategy for building a national movement.) These educations are conducted by different freedom bus riders. Movies have accompanied some of the educations. We plan and strategize for the days ahead. We rehearse different songs, and write new songs. Different individuals have many different responsibilities - coordinating the logistics for the next few stops, writing about the trip, updating the web page, coordinating press contacts, and (as always) dealing with the crises of the day.
