Bonnie
Macri of JEDI for Women
introduces Cheri Honkala as she prepares to address Salt
Lake City: "I want to start off a little by talking
about myself before I start talking about the bus that is

KWRU
member Reo English speaks about her experience as a currently
homeless woman in Philadelphia and expresses her shock at
how wide spread poverty is across America. Margaret of KWRU
and Amity Scoville, of Mormons
for Equality and Social Justice also share their experiences
around organizing with the Poor People’s Economic Human
Rights Campaign. |

Local
homeless people and supporters gathered outside of the City
County Building in Washington Square Park early Saturday morning
in Salt Lake City to greet the New Freedom bus riders. |

Many
people in the crowd filled out Economic Human Rights Violation
Forms to send to the United Nations with the Freedom Riders.
|

Susan,
April and Laura, members of JEDI
for Women, join the Economic Human Rights Choir in several
songs during the rally.
|

Cathy
is just one of several Salt Lake City’s formerly or
currently homeless that spoke about the conditions of poverty
and the importance of organizing. |

TRASA
a Salt Lake City artist’s collective hosted the Freedom
Riders for a night of sleep and meals. Several art displays
spoke to the denial of economic human rights. This display
exhibited photos, including work of Harvey
Finkle, of Salt Lake City homeless in a piece entitled
“Death of the Safety Net”.

Daily
Prayer for the New Freedom Bus Tour
The Rev.
Noelle Damico, Catalyst, School of Theology, University
of the Poor
Saturday, November 16
God who journeys with us, we have already journeyed many miles
and we have many more to go. We pray for the communities the
New Freedom Bus Tour has visited and for those who are preparing
for us even now. We give thanks for our partners who are helping
us fund our trip. We are grateful for our drivers and those
who have opened homes, churches, union halls and schools for
us to sleep each night. We remember those on the bus and those
around the country who are tirelessly organizing this tour
so that the message of economic human rights is proclaimed
to the north, south, east, and west. We ask you to continue
to inspire us with your spirit of truth, your promise of justice,
and your ever-present love, that we may see this journey to
completion for the sake of all your people. Amen.
