In June of 1998, the
New Freedom Bus travelled across the United States, gathering the
stories of economic human rights violations
to present to the United Nations and world community.
The Bus Tour was led
by organizations of the poor from across the country. Poor and homeless
families, together with their supporters, travelled to thirty five
poor urban and rural communities. At each stop, local organizers
had documented economic human
rights violations, which were collected by the Freedom Riders.
The bus tour was "covered"
via the internet, with almost daily updates from each site. That
coverage, including stories, photos and music, is available here.
Begin with the kickoff in Philadelphia,
or choose any stop.
The Economic Human Rights
Campaign has continued and grown since then. Our next major step
will be the March of the Americas, where
poor and homeless people from the United States, Canada, and Central
and South America will march from Washington, D.C. to the United
Nations in New York City, protesting economic human rights violations
across the hemisphere.
